The eggs are either laid close to a food source or are carried by the parent until they hatch. They do not form colonies like termite or ants but live in groups. They like warm & damp places & are most active during night. Any activity during day is an indication of their overpopulation. They cause allergic disorders & spread diseases like dysentery, typhoid, poliomyelitis, gastro-enteritis, asthma, etc. Their best place to be active for them is your kitchen. So why are you waiting?
BED BUGS are a cosmopolitan pest, attacking to all where hygiene is absent. They are hitch hikers & use public transport, hospitals, theaters, hotels, hostels & homes are the most vulnerable places. They move from place to place along with people’s clothing & baggage. They are hidden in tiny cracks & crevices during daytime & feed on blood at night. They are mostly found in beds so they are called bed bugs.
ANTS one of the finest creatures, ants are easily attracted to sweet substances. The black ants cause no injury to human beings but red ants use their stings which cause burning sensations on skin which can be subsided by pouring cold water but if ants attack in swarm, they can kill even an elephant. They carry dead bodies of insects into their holes. They are hazardous for infants. They are most active in hot days. Restaurants, sweet shops, kitchens & households are the most vulnerable places for the ant infestations.
RODENTS are the number one pests causing loss of millions of rupees. Zoologically rodents include rats, mice rabbits, hares, bandkoots, squirrels, etc. but the rats & mice are affecting us the most. Households, grain shops, restaurants, flour mills, printing places, paper & grain godowns, kitchens, farms, cloth storages, etc. are the most vulnerable places of the rats & mice invasion. They not only cut & eat vulnerable stuff but also contaminate food by their droppings. They are difficult to catch even in mouse traps because they scoot. They bite after blowing cold & cause health hazards. They harbor the fleas which are the carriers of the deadly plague strains. They also spread diseases like leptospirosis. They cause loss of billions of rupees annually to India alone. They can cause fatal accidents by damaging the electrical wiring & installation.
HOUSE FLIES: adults ¼”-5/16”. Female houseflies lay 400-600 in decaying substances or faeces which develops in maggot larvae. They are quickly attracted to uncovered food or organic waste. House flies can transmit a wide range of disease causing microbes including those responsible for food poisoning, dysentery, tuberculosis, cholera & parasitic worm infestations.
MOSQUITOES: too pose serious health hazards like malaria – P. vivax, P. falciparum, P. ovale, P. malaria. Logged water is sources of breeding mosquitoes. Moreover the stings of mosquitoes make us especially children more uncomfortable, leading to sleepless nights affecting our routine & business the next day. Are we supposed to bear all these ordeals when an easy remedy is available?
